The Best of Black....

And a bright cheery Huddersfield good morning to you all.

Yeah right. It ain't raining but the gods of West Yorkshire do frown on sun. And the blog today had a distinctly West Yorkshire flavour as all my yarns for Yarn Porn Friday come from Holmfirth. Yup they're all Rowan, all stash and all black.

The Lurex Shimmer came in a Kim Hargreaves box. On the email from them it said 'PS: We could have dropped it in Firth Street as we are so close.' Which had me squeaking for days. I've moved off Firth Street now and, although the hat still remains unknit, I'm itching to place more orders.

The Yorkshire Tweed four-ply made the very first knitting post to this blog. Buggerd if I know where the hat is now though. I seem to have misplaced it moving. Although I'm very confident it will show up. I think I made the point in that entry that it was the first yarn I fell in love with.
I started the blog when my interest in knitting was revived by being in a long distance relationship. I didn't want to bore Tom with my projects so up went the blog. That and I wanted the attention. Tom is, of course, spectacularly supportive of my knitting so I guess I didn't need a blog for that reason. But the attention is nice.

The 4-ply Soft of Anna fame. Oh how I love working with it. The picture is of Ms Anna's lace.

Black KSH. When my rapidly deteriorated from cancer, when she died of it, and through her funeral (not the service, I'm not that insanely rude) I knit with KSH. I'll always regret not letting her add a row to my first project. I was too ashamed of the holes. This is Black KSH waiting for inspiration.

Big Wool Tuft. My aunt was with me when I bought this. The small shoulder warming project that I knit with it was knit around family. I think it was somebody's birthday. I ware the project quite a lot. And call it my dead sheep. Affectionately. I was quite sad when the discontinued it.

Happy Yarn Porn Friday.

Have you seen the effect of knitting, say, three rows of a very thin yarn followed by one row of a really huge one? The thin ones pull the huge one in and make it go wriggly. The effect is like the bark of scribbly-gum trees. I've seen a shawl done this way, with the thin yarn knitted on needles big enough for the fat one. You end up with a lacy effect with heavier lines that MOVE in the fabric as you move. Demands a certain degree of courage to knit and to wear, though.

I think my fave is the Big Wool Tuft...it looks like a black sun complete with solar flares!

It's difficult to photograph black, and what a beautiful job you did. I can see from your blog you may have a little experience in capturing the deep dark goodness of black. :-)

Fantastic pictures! I even left some black yarn out of my YPF edition because I couldn't get it to come out right. Well done... yummy.

Lovely textures and blacks--mohair's tough to photograph(at least for me). Say hello to Birstall for me while we bake in 90 degree heat.
